General information
When you join band in grades 6 or 7 you will be playing twice a week with Mrs. Radway. You will have several instruments to choose from but you don't have to make your choice until September. For more information on instrument choices, see below. Students can either rent, buy, or borrow an instrument to play in band class. Rentals can be from Long and McQuade music or from Gingerbread Toys. If you want to rent from Gingerbread Toys, Sight and Sound music runs an instrument rental night so you can pick up your instrument in the hart. The date will be announced in September and students can go to KRSS to rent their instrument and to do a workshop with a professional musician. If you have a band instrument in your family that you can borrow then please let me know. If you would like to be in band but renting an instrument is not possible, for whatever reason, please let me know. I have a small amount of instruments that can be loaned out to students. Please contact me at [email protected] if you have any questions at all:)
You do not need to sign up in June for band in grades 6/7. If you are going into grade 8 and are interested in being in Band at KRSS, please email Mrs. Radway to let her know as you need to be added to the list to have the correct schedule.

instrument choices
There are many different instruments that you can choose to play in band. I teach Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Alto and Tenor Saxophone, Bass Guitar and Percussion. We do not have acoustic or electric guitars in band. Concert band music does not have written music for those guitars and they are not commonly found in this type of band. Percussion is mainly offered to grade 7 students as rudiments of music are necessary to give a strong start in percussion. See the links below to watch these instruments in action to give yourself a better idea of what they sound like. Students get to choose an instrument in September and Mrs. Radway can definitely help you decide if you are not sure what to pick. If you are a student that takes the bus, please note that trombones, bass guitars, and large saxophones cannot travel on the bus.
